A Business Management Consultant, Mrs Eunice Atuejide, has formally announced her intention to run in the 2019 Presidential election under the platform of the National Interest Party (NIP).
Atuejide, who made the declaration on Friday in Abuja, said it was high time a women president was elected in Nigeria.
The aspirant who is also a lawyer said that she had similar attributes with the trending Croatian President, Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
“I believe the time for women presidency is now; I am doing a lot of social media awareness and it has been amazing; so many Nigerians are ready to have a woman as president.
“Look at Croatia, everybody is taking about what the Croatian president has been doing and that is me; I can speak so many languages; I am not a military marksman but I can kick; I have a black belt in Taekwondo.
“I can speak local and foreign languages and that is what we need –somebody who can understand our problems, put them on the table and find solutions.
“I don’t believe in power rotation; all the rotation of power should go to the women because we have not had a shot at the presidency.’’
She said that she would run an all-inclusive government which would be achieved by doing away with vested interest.
Atuejide said that the bane of Nigerian politics was the practice of concentrating on those that funded campaign and concentrating on tribe among other nepotic interests.
The mother of five said that power would be one of her primary areas of focus as the sector had not been properly managed over the years.
“Power supply will one of the very first things I will tackle 100 per cent; the different this time is that we will deal with both from law and application parts of it.
“We have privatized power production but we have not actually privatized power distribution. We send everything to the national grid and there are limitations to that.
“We are investing billions in power sector without seeing results because we are not distributing the energy we are producing.
“We need to open the system; allow every private sector investor who can do come in and produce and distribute energy. The important thing is to make sure there is regulation,’’ she said.
She said she had no political godfather but was depending on the masses for success.
The presidential hopeful regretted that people go into public office to instantly become extremely rich in material possession at the expense of national growth and development.
Earlier in his address, Azeez Yusuf, National Chairman, NIP, said that the party had a vision to be a political party led mainly by highly qualified young professionals, and outstanding business people with or without tertiary education.
“Our target is to find this quality and class of leaders who are mostly within the age bracket of 21 and 45 years to entrust the continued development and sustenance of our political party, as well as that of our country Nigeria in their hands.
“NIP is looking to background check, screen and admit at least 20,000 of such men and women in its leadership cadre. Men and women who possess undisputed integrity, and the requisite leadership skills and experience, to take over the leadership of Nigeria.
“Leaders who can, and who will earnestly work to help Nigeria recover from the six decades of mismanagement of her resources.
“To help Nigerians come out of the decades of suffering, and unending disaccord among her people,’’ he said.
Yusuf said that NIP was a political party bound solely by common ideologies, so that ethnicity, religion, tribe, education, creed among others were of no value to the members and leaders of the party.
