After a colloquium held at the National Institute Of International Affairs with the theme of discuss being “A Brighter Future for Nigeria and How to get there,” the second session “Cultural Evening,” which took place at Freedom Park, Lagos Island on Wednesday, 30 May, 2018, was even more exciting.
The event featured performances from Freedom5, folk songs from Nerfertiti and Ben Tomoloju; poems by Akeem Lasisi, Aduke Gomez, Lola Akande’s “What it Takes,” Abike Akintuyi; reading from Kunle Ajibade’s ”Jailed For Life” by Joke Silva, and reading from another of his book, ”What a Country?”
Birthday wishes, cutting of cake by the celebrant, his wife and friends were also on point. Tributes were paid by Maxim Uzoatu, Obari Gomba and many others. Notable guests, including Prof. Wole Soyinka and his wife, Folu; Senator Babafemi Ojudu, NIJ Provost, Gbemiga Ogunleye; Lemi Olalemi, Deputy CEO, TVC News; Odia Ofeimun, among other family and friends were present to celebrate the 60th birthday of Ajibade.
Well wishers probably didn’t see this coming as the ceremony neared an end. Ajibade wormed his way to the hearts of onlookers when he took stage with his lovely wife, Bunmi. Some were awed at his legit display while others who had different opinion about his dance skills were given a run for their money as they watched the 60-year old rock his ageing body.
Then and there, one of them confessed he had never seen Ajibade danced in public.
