A PDP governoship aspirant in Kano State, Salihu Takai, may have defied the directive of the party leader in the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, asking him to contest for Kano South Senatorial seat as against gubernatorial seat.
Mr Takai chose to align with Mr Kwankwaso’s camp in Kano PDP, refusing to defect to APC alongside his long-time political leader, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Inside sources said Mr Kwankwaso had asked the two top governorship contenders in his camp, former deputy governor Hafiz Abubakar and Salihu Takai to go for senatorial contest, a decision insiders say did not go down well the duo.
While supporters of Hafiz Abubakar are passively circumspect in expressing their resentment to the decision, Mr Takai’s supporters appear pragmatic in their resolve to challenge the decision.
The director of the Takai Campaign Organisation, Farouk Iya, on Thursday announced the decision to supporters, asking them to escort the aspirant to Kaduna for screening on Saturday, September 22.
Spokesman for the campaign Auwalu Muazu confirmed the candidate’s plan to go for the screening but declined comment on whether Mr Takai received any directive from Mr Kwankwaso to go for senate contest.
“All I know is that we are going to Kaduna for screening on Saturday as directed by the our great party, PDP,” he said.
