Madonna and Lady Gaga put an end to their long-running feud by partying together at Oscars bash
A friendship is born! It looks like a being chummy with Lady Gaga is back in Vogue for Madonna.
The Queen of Pop has put an end to her long-running feud with Gaga by inviting the A Star Is Born actress to her star-studded soirée dubbed The Party, the annual post-Oscars celebration Madonna hosts with talent manager Guy Oseary.
Although, they was a strict ban on social media posts at the event, there was a Time magazine photograph doing the rounds, who snapped a photo of Madonna and Gaga snuggling up to one another.
In the picture, the two lay atop what appears to be crumpled white paper as Madonna cradles a grinning Gaga’s face in her arms. Gaga, meanwhile, is holding her new hardware, which she picked up for Best Original Song for A Star Is Born’s “Shallow.”
Rumours of a feud first erupted in 2011 when fans thought Gaga’s song ‘Born This Way’ was a direct rip off of Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’. So when when lyrics to a Madonna song titled ‘Two Steps Behind Me’ — which the singer never released — was leaked online, many saw it as a direct dig at Gaga.
“You’re a copycat, Where is my royalty? You’re a pretty girl, I’ll give you that. But stealing my recipe, it’s an ugly look,” the lyrics read. “Did you study me hard enough? You’re never gonna be, you’re just a wannabe me. Like a sister all messed-up, who’s gonna help you out? In your fantasy, you can try it all. But you can’t be me. You can walk the walk, even talk the talk. But you’ll always be two steps behind me.”
But Gaga’s not one to allow another artist to walk all over her, so she hit back just as hard.
“Madonna and I are very different. Just saying. We’re very different,” she told Beats 1 Radio in 2016. “I wouldn’t make that comparison at all and I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna, she’s a nice lady, and she’s had a fantastic huge career, biggest pop star of all time.
“But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different,” explained Gaga. “I just will not be compared to anyone anymore. I am who the f— I am and this is me. My life story is my life story, just like yours is.”
