Demolition of Akachi Monument: I Weep For Nigeria, By Tope Fasua

I weep for the NIGGER mindset that made the new Imo govt demolish the tallest monument in Nigeria. Our own Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, one of the few worthwhile, futuristic ventures ever embarked upon by one of us – Rochas Okorocha – love him or hate him. I have never visited Owerri without passing that monument and taking pictures. I noted from the first time I saw that monument that the people of the state shunned the place. I would later learn that some of the residents believe Rochas buried something in that location. Another person told me that he named the monument after one of his daughters – Akachi – meaning Hand of God.

This monument makes me proud. I even challenged the governors of the SW to see what the SE is doing. But as much as I respect the SE, this particular demolition and waste of money is quite saddening and depressing.

If this statue was abroad somewhere, we would go queue for days for visa. They will grant us or deny us. They will take our money. Then we will buy tickets to travel, lodge in hotels, take travel allowance in dollars, go and spend in Oyibo man’c country. But we have no value for ourselves. we may dress garishly, build mansions with all the materials imported from abroad. We may speak perfect English and parade all the degrees in the world. But this kind of action shows we have no value in and of ourselves. We are still niggers, at heart. And like that black American pastor said, THE NIGGER AINT GAT NO SENSE.

I hope the foundational structure of that monument has not been compromised – I think it has. And so the place is no longer fit for visit. What a monumental waste. What an act of monumental stupidity. What a sad day. Senegal nle nle nbi – just next door here – had a perspective. They constructed something. The place is so tall and big, like Eiffel Towers (where I’ve never visited but I see and hear) it has restaurants inside. Small time our people will ask for restructuring, confederation etc. If Nigeria as a nation cannot build anything worthwhile, and a state gov did it, why demolish the place? do we know how tough it is to build and how easy to destroy? That place may have cost 5 years to build. But in one day… in one day… Emeka Ihedioha or whoever it is, had the place torn down! He says he didn’t order it. But as C-in-C of that state he heard what was going on and ignored it. Vendetta, cheap revenge. Niggardly thinking.

What a people. Shebi if Imolites hated the monument they should have allowed the rest of us, and curious white people to jejely pay N200 each and climb to see the kaleidoscopic view of Owerri? Last time I was in Dubai, I went in the Dubai frame. See the long winding queue to get in. It was embarrassing. They just decided to build a frame-like structure one day. They then put some artifacts on the ground floor as a museum. when you get to the top you see a view of Downtown, Bur Dubai, Karama and Deira one other side. When you descend on the other side they show you their idea of dubai in the future. We all dey there dey gawk. Gate fee was at least N5,000 per person. in 30 minutes that your money is gone. Naija people full there that day – including people from Imo State.

e no go better for Nigger. listen I’m angry this morning. na jeje I dey waka pass dey mind my business o.

NB – in Senegal people did not agree with Wade for building that structure. Senegalese people being mostly muslims may actually detest the place for some of the nudity. But no one tore the place down. My guy visited the monument some time back. Not everyone agrees with statue of liberty or Eiffel towers or the leaders that built them too
