Celebrating Major-General Paul Omu At 80

Major-General Paul Ufuoma Omu (rtd), former Military Governor of the old Cross River State (that included Akwa Ibom), former member of the Supreme Military Council, former Chairman of a Special Military Tribunal and Commandant of Command and Staff College, Jaji, turned 80 on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

Major-General (Chief) Omu is the Othuke (Pillar) of Isokoland — a title bestowed on him by all the traditional rulers of Isoko gathered together in Oleh, the original headquarters of the old Isoko Division. In order to ensure proper social distancing, a select group of mask-wearing sons and daughters of the land gathered at his home in Igbide for a short cake-cutting ceremony.

At 80, General (Chief) Omu still looks every inch a soldier who could lead a battalion or division in war. But even more impressive is that despite his many years in government, his integrity and good name remain unblemished by the slightest jot. Let us celebrate this distinguished officer and gentleman many more years of good health, contentment and joy with his wife, Senator Stella Omu (former Chief Whip of the Senate and retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Prisons) and his entire family.
