Crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) con- tinues as the party holds its state con- gress today.
The two factions within the party had on Wednesday held separate local govern- ment congresses to elect executives at the levels.
The two factions are those loyal to the former governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, and the other backed by Sen. Biodun Olujimi held their congresses at two different lo- cations across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Parallel council executives emerged
from the party council and ward congress- es held on March 17, 2020.
Fayose and Olujimi have been at logger- heads over the leadership of Ekiti State PDP as they made efforts to install their loyalists as leaders from ward to the state levels to capture the party structure.
The leadership tussle resulted in the emergence of parallel executives from the March 17 ward congress, which the duo saw as an opportunity to capture the par- ty machinery ahead of the 2022 guberna- torial election in the state.
Recall that Olujimi accused the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee of fuelling the crisis by sow- ing seeds of discord among party leaders in the state through the divide and rule tactics, saying the crisis has caused di- vision in the state caretaker committee of the party with the chairman, Sen. Ho- sea Agboola and the secretary, Mr Duran Odeyemi.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti ahead of the congress yesterday, Odeyemi said, “Governor Makinde nominated the chair- man while I was nominated from the par- ty in Abuja by Secondus.
