APC Primaries Marred By Violence, Shooting, Diversion of Materials In Isolo

+ Muniru Wins In Ire Akari/Ishagatedo Ward

The elections primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have been marred by violence, shooting and irregularities.

Party supporters who had arrived as early as 8:00 a.m. across the seven political wards of the council area were made to wait for three hours before election materials and officials arrived at some designated venues while they did not arrive at others.

In Ajao Estate and Alagbeji despite the late arrival of voting materials, election could still not hold as hired thugs invaded the venues wielding dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically into the air. The ensuing confusion saw many party supporters scampering for safety even as election officials ran for their dear lives.

It was a similar situation in Akinbaiye, where hired thugs had a field day unleashing terror on party supporters by shooting aimlessly.

This is despite the presence of a police team at the venue. Normalcy was, however, returned a few minutes later.

Unfortunately, the voting material for the venue was allegedly intercepted by one Alhaji Mukaila Ajao (a.k.a Milanko) who was said to have diverted the materials and the officials to his hotel located at Akiti Avenue, Oke Afa, Isolo.

As words went around about the diversion of election materials, youths from across the council area mobilized themselves to rescue the materials. As at the time of filling this report, the DPO of Okota Police Station is prevailing on the youth to remain calm even as she promised to return the ballot boxes and other materials.

In Okota and Apena wards, election could not hold because election officials did not bring an updated party register to the venue. This, according to many party faithfuls would disenfranchise many from voting. Hence, the election materials were returned to the party secretariat while the party supporters returned to their homes disappointed.

It was similar situation in Ilasamaja as election officials erroneously came to the venue with a register meant for Mushin. The official were said to have pleaded to return to the secretariat for the authentic register but they never did, Instead, they were alleged to have headed to Milanko Hotel, where the election materials were reportedly diverted.

However, despite initial hiccups, elections eventually took place in Ishagatedo/Ire Akari Estate ward. In the chairmanship election, Hakeem Abiodun Muniru polled 100 votes against Bayo Olasoju who recorded no vote. In the councillorship election, Kehinde Ajala defeated the incumbent Bisodun Odushina-Adeoye with 97 votes to nothing.
