Gbemi Shasore Buries Father In Lagos

Notable woman is substance, Gbemi Shasore recently played host to a galaxy of dignitaries who honored her at the burial ceremony of her father, Pa Samuel Olushola Shonola-Shoyinka, in Lagos.

The event took place at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.

She was ably supported by her husband, Olasupo Shasore SAN, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State (2007 – 2011), and a former gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State.

Pa Shonola-Shoyinka died on Sunday, July 18. He was aged 92. Everywhere his name was mentioned, glowing tributes overflowed about his warm-heartedness, kindness and unmatchable wit (which his darling daughter, Gbemi to has inherited so abundantly).

Gbemi Shasore is the brain behind Quramo’s book publishing business, the producer of Quramo’s ground breaking documentary about the creation of Nigeria as well as the convener of the annual Quramo Writers Prize which is now in its fourth year.

A former President of the International Women’s Society, Shasore, who is also the Chairperson of the Widows Trust Fund, works tirelessly to mobilise and empower more women in this category through skill acquisition and mentoring.

She is also passionate about charity-a trait she inherited from her late mother, Dr. Simi Johnson, the first female orthodontist in Nigeria. She does this through her involvement with various charitable initiatives, including Zonta International Club of Lagos and the International Women’s Society.

Shasore is a graduate of the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the New York Institute of Technology, where she studied Communication Arts and Public Relations. She uses her writings about women leaders to stimulate development among the female gender.
