KWARA State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Monday, 18 June inaugurated the maiden Visitation Panel to the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete with a charge on members of the panel to follow due process in carrying out their assignment.
Governor Ahmed asserted that KWASU had become a strong brand in the educational sector in Nigeria, noting that this is evident in the growing demand for the institution’s academic programmes and quality of its graduates.
He, however, said that the Visitation Panel was set up in realisation of the need to further improve the university’s brand and move it up the ladder of reputable institutions in the country and the world over.
The panel’s terms of reference include to examine the staffing position of the school in relation to student population and financial ability to pay staff entitlements; assess fund management in relation to available resources, and examine the relevance of courses being offered.
It will also explore the possibility of running the institution without requesting for increase in subvention; examine the areas of comparative advantage enjoyed by the university and advise on ways to make it second to none in those academic fields as well as take census of the staff and students of the university.
Similarly, the governor enjoined other Kwara State-owned tertiary institutions to adjust their operations and manage resources at their disposal prudently.
The governor revealed that arrangements have been concluded for the construction of two new campuses of KWASU in Osi and Ilesha-Baruba.
Prof. Nuhu Saka is the Chairman of the Panel, while Mr. A. M. Odetokun is the Secretary. Other members of the panel are Dr. S. O. Ajayi, Mustapha Hussain Olarewaju, Alh. S. A. Musa, Mr. O. J. Fabiyi, Barr. H.A. Gegele. The panel is expected to complete and submit its report w
