Oh no! Not again! That was the reaction in media circles today following a revelation that the daughter of Deputy Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr Steve Nwosu, is among the students kidnapped on Friday night at the Nigerian-Turkish International School in Isheri, Ogun State.
Nwosu, whose wife – Oluwatoyin was abducted by gunmen in their Isolo home in 2015, told Newsmakers today that his second daughter is among the kidnapped students.
“I don’t know where I will get a N100million ransom,” he said.
Newsmakers learnt that the daughter is on half scholarship at the school, and the parents have not even paid her fees for the term.
The 7-man gang that kidnapped the wife in 2015 had also asked for the same amount in ransom then.
Before the wife’s kidnap, Nwosu himself had narrowly escaped being killed on a Wednesday afternoon in Lagos, when gunmen on a motorbike shot him in the head.
A total of N1.2billion has been named as ransom for the eight people abducted by the kidnappers.
According to detectives, they have placed N300million ransom on each of the two Turkish nationals among the victims and N100million each on the six other victims including three female students.
A source told Newsmakers, “They have been using the victims’ phone numbers to call their families. Each time the families try to negotiate, they would end the call.”
Newsmakers also learnt that CCTV Cameras at the school hostel have shown that the kidnappers wore masks when they stormed the hostel. One of them wore skirt, but detectives suspect the figure to be that of a man.
Among the victims were two Junior Secondary School (JSS) students, one Senior Secondary School (SSS) student, three Nigerian workers and two Turkish staff.
They were abducted at about 9:30pm on Friday, when the kidnappers dug through the fence and entered through a back door.
