Former DTN MD, Onukaba Buried

The remains of a former governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State and one time Managing Director of Daily Times Plc, Dr Adinoyi Onukaba Ojo has been laid to rest.

He was buried yesterday at his Ihima country home in Okehi local government area of Kogi State.

He died on Sunday night following an accident along the Abuja-Akure expressway while he was returning from the 80th birthday celebration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

It was gathered that the accident occurred following an ambush laid on the highway by some suspected armed robbers.

Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has commiserated with the family and people of the state over the incident.

Governor Yahaya Bello in a statement issued yesterday in Lokoja by his Chief Press Secretary, Mrs Petra Akinti Onyegbule, said, “This is especially sad and painful coming on the first anniversary of the death of another illustrious Kogi son and legal luminary, Barrister James Ocholi, SAN, the erstwhile Minister of State for Labour who died in active service.

He prayed that a “permanent stop will come to the loss of prominent citizens of the state in their prime.

Onukaba was amongst the 28 aspirants that sought for the APC ticket to contest the November 21, 2015 governorship election in the state.

He was born on March 9, 1960 in Oboroke-Ihima, Okehi LGA of Kogi State to the family of Mallam Shuaibu Onukaba and Hajia Aisha Onukaba.

Onukaba obtained his first degree in 1982 in Theatre Arts from University of Ibadan and had his national service at Radio Nigeria, Ikoyi -Lagos between 1982 and 1983.

He joined The Guardian newspaper as one of its pioneer reporters in 1983 and rose to the position of News Editor before travelling out in 1989 for post graduate studies.

He published many books and journal articles, amongst them were In the Eye of Time, a biography of former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and The Story of Atiku Abubakar, a biography of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; and “Born to Run” – a biography of Late Dele Giwa, co-authored by him and Dele Olojede, amongst others.
