The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and the European Union have drummed support for the protection of the rights of consumers in the country’s emerging digital economy.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the commemoration of the 2017 World Consumer Rights Day organised by the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Mrs Buhari, who was represented by the wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, Hajia Mairo Umar Tanko Almakura, tasked the CPC to intensify efforts at getting redress for consumer rights abuses.
“The fight for consumer right is a noble fight,” Mrs Buhari told the participants shortly after being invested as the Consumer Ambassador of Nigeria.
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Michael Arrion, also said efforts at consumer protection in Nigeria is not carrying alone consumers who are hit by abuses.
The Director General of the Consumer Protection Council, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, said ignorance remained the bane of Nigerian consumers.
