Body of Man Who Jumped Into Festac Lagoon Recovered

IMG_5779Rescuers have recovered the body of a young man, Bayode Ahmed Lawal, who jumped into the lagoon from the link bridge separating FESTAC from Amuwo Odofin on Saturday.

The body was fished out of the murky waters yesterday by local divers who in turn handed it to the marine police.

The Industrial and Applied Chemistry graduate of University of Ilorin, had on Saturday morning gone out with some friends when he suddenly started acting weird by rolling on the floor. When his friends tried to know what was wrong, he was said to have risen from the ground, jogged to the bridge, and jumped over without saying a word.

An account has it that the deceased had some psychological issues, while another said he was just fed up with life.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the body had been deposited at the public morgue.

“It is a clear case of suicide. However, police will investigate to ascertain what forced him into taking such action,” he said, expressing concern over the increasing suicide cases in Lagos.
