Anthony Joshua, UK-based boxer born to Nigerian parents, has revealed that eating Nigerian staple, eba and egusi is the secret to his success.
He disclosed this to Oma Akatugba, sports journalist and CEO of Sportsbrand, after he knocked out Wladimir Klitschko, his Ukrainian counterpart, in a heavyweight fight at Wembley.
“Very humbled and not just for myself, but for the people that have worked with me, so it is important that I can only repay by achieving things in the ring,” he said.
“My heart is with Nigeria, my heart is with Britain, I’m a Nigerian by blood, yes… Eating eba with egusi is the secret of success.”
Talking about his connection with Nigeria, the heavyweight champion said he would meet the governor of his state back in Nigeria to help the people.
“I’m even trying out to get to meet the governor, and go and get something back to Nigeria, even though we do small things for the country between my family and my mother, we help out the village she came from and If I could do more on a large scale, I’ll definitely come down there and associate myself more with Nigeria,” he said.
