Senate President Bukola Saraki, governors from the six South West states yesterday paid their last respect to the late former military governor of the old Western Region, General Adeyinka Adebayo in Ibadan.
The remains of late Gen. Adebayo were received by the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi who led other south west governors to pay tribute to the deceased.
It arrived the Government House Arcade, at about 2:20pm on Thursday.
The GOC, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Martins Abraham led the remains of the Late General to the venue of the lying-in-state in appreciation of his role as an ex officer.
In his remarks, Saraki said the southwest governors had proven to the whole world that there is unity in the region, and urged them to continue promoting peace.
He also commended them for giving a befitting burial to the deceased, whom he described as one of those who made the unity of Nigeria possible.
While speaking on behalf of other Southwest governors, the host governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi described the exit of Gen. Adebayo as a monumental loss, not only to the Yoruba nation, but the country as a whole.
Other governors at the event include Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), while other governors where represented.
Ekiti State and the Ogun State governors were represented by their deputies respectively.
