Operatives of the anti-kidnapping squad of the Lagos Command have arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly staging his own kidnap.
The suspect, who was identified as Ufon Edet Udoh, had allegedly staged his own kidnap and in the process demanded for the ransom of N60m from his elder brother.
He had allegedly directed his accomplice identified as Paul Philip Okiemute to report his alleged abduction to his boss at their work place.
The suspect allegedly asked his accomplice to demand a ransom of N60 million from his elder brother identified as Victor Udoh which they did.
It was gathered that Victor Udoh who was afraid his brother’s life was in danger reported the matter to the police that his brother was kidnapped by unknown persons at Liverpool in Apapa area of the state.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous Cole who confirmed the arrest said Victor Udoh reported the case on July 3, 2017.
Famous-Cole said men of the command’s anti-kidnapping squad, quickly swung into action and through phone calls traced the suspect which led to the arrest of one Paul Philips Okiemute.
He said upon questioning confessed that Udoh staged his own kidnap to collect money from his elder brother due to his financial problems.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, however, had ordered the suspects be charged to court immediately.
