On Friday, Kensington Palace released a new official portrait of Prince George, in honor of his 4th birthday on Saturday. “The Duke and Duchess are delighted to share a new official portrait of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness’s fourth birthday tomorrow,” the Palace wrote on Twitter and on Instagram. “The photograph was taken at Kensington Palace at the end of June by Chris Jackson. The Duke and Duchess are very pleased to share this lovely picture as they celebrate Prince George’s 4th birthday, and would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received.”
The image in question shows a smiley Prince George looking at the camera straight-on. In the photograph, Prince George wears a blue-and-white striped collarless button-down shirt. In the past, Kensington Palace has released a new official royal portrait of Prince George and Princess Charlotte to celebrate each of their annual birthdays. However, in years prior, Kate Middleton, a amateur photographer, has taken many of these birthday portraits herself. This time around, the Palace opted to use an image taken by Chris Jackson, a Getty Images Royal Photographer. Earlier this year, Jackson married Kate Middleton’s personal assistant and reported stylist, Natasha Archer, in a stunning French country-set ceremony.
The release of the photo comes at the tale end of a news-making week for the young prince. On Monday, he arrived in Poland with his family as part of an official royal tour of Europe. At both his Warsaw and Berlin airport landings, he did not look particularly pleased. However, by early Friday, Prince George’s mood seemed to improve thanks to a helicopter in Hamburg.
Prince George, along with his parents and younger sister Princess Charlotte, concluded his trip today. Here’s hoping that Prince George has a very happy birthday today, especially now that he will be back home in the U.K.
