Ward Chairman Dies, As Osita Chidoka Wins UPP Anambra Governorship Ticket

A former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and ex Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka yesterday emerged the flag-bearer of the United Progressives Party (UPP) for the November 18, gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

This is even as a delegate of the party reportedly died following a protest that erupted by aggrieved delegates over alleged exclusion of their names in the accredited primary list at the venue of the accreditation.

The deceased, Maduabuchi Uwakwe, who was said to be the chairman of one of the wards from Owerre Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state, died of suffocation during the protect.

It was gathered that police, in attempt to restore order in the already charged atmosphere, threw teargas at the accreditation arena, leading to the death of the delegate.

Announcing the results in Awka, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Chief Ejike Uche, said Chidoka pulled 1,222 votes out of the 1,473 accredited delegates, while Chudi Ofodile scored 87 votes, and 19 votes declared invalid.
