Privileges C’ttee Drops Female SAN Nominee, As 29 Others Are Sworn-in Tomorrow

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) will tomorrow inaugurate 29 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), without one of the female nominees who is being dropped from the list.

Oluwatoyin Ajoke Bashorun was on the list of SANship released on July 6, as announced by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha.

But in a statement yesterday by Uwani Mustapha, who doubles as the secretary of the LPPC, the committee headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen decided to defer Bashorun’s conferment due to on-going investigation on her eligibility.

“After the announcement more facts have emerged touching on the eligibility of one of the otherwise successful applicants,” the letter reads.

Those to be conferred with the new rank include the younger brother to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Akinlolu Osinbajo; Lagos based rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo, among others.
