Buhari Visits Maiduguri, Celebrates Independence Anniversary With Troops (PHOTOS)

The Presidency on Sunday failed to organise the customary celebratory events to mark the nation’s Independence Anniversary.

But President Muhammadu Buhari left for Maiduguri, Borno State ostensibly to spend some time with the military fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

The president had previously marked the occasion with Charge of Guard parade by presiding over the Brigade of Guards and the release of pigeons at the forecourt of the presidential villa Abuja with many dignitaries invited to witness.

This would normally be followed by a light refreshment.

It was not clear why the event was canceled this year as the Presidency did not offer any explanation.
