Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has been called upon to use journalism profession towards eliminating violence against women.
Presiding Magistrate,Court 12, Bauchi, Magistrate Safiya Musa made the call at the celebration of the International Day to eliminate violence against women organised by NAWOJ in Bauchi.
She said that cases of violence against women and girl were being condoned in our societies because some of the laws created have gaps which affects fast dispensation of justice.
“Some of the laws on violence against women are obsolete because,a doctor has to examine the victim of rape and provide results as evidence and the family relatives of the victim will not want the child or woman to take up the case hiding behind the environment and society.
“Violence against women has cost women to remain sick because some of these violences are not cure,for example,cases were victims are left with trams intend disease,psychological trauma inability to conceive and give birth among others,”she said.
She noted that Men are no longer their sisters keepers because they condone and are the ones involved in all the forms of violence agains women and girls.
Musa therefore called on government at all levels to take up issues of violence against seriously and find a lasting solution to the menace.
