The eldest son of late Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Kabir Umar, Baba Umar Farouq, has been selected to succeed his father as the next emir.
Farouq, the District Head of Shira (Sarkin Shira) emerged as the preferred choice. Others who showed interest in the position were Laila Mukhtar, District Head of Madara and Yakubu Mu’azu (rtd), former military administrator to Sokoto State.
Sources disclosed that Katagum emirate’s king makers and other prominent title holders were summoned to Bauchi Thursday night and met with Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and other government officials on the matter.
There is still no official announcement from the Bauchi State Government regarding the appointment.
However sources close to the palace have confirmed that he had been given his appointment letter by the state government.
