There was a scuffle at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos when security agencies attached to the airport impounded 17 pieces of checked in luggage belonging to popular hip-hop artist, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido.
This followed the alleged unruly behaviour of one of his aides who arrived with him from a trip to Dubai aboard Emirates Airlines on Thursday evening.
It was learnt that trouble started when Checkport staff at the baggage reclaim area attempted to check the tags on the check-in luggage of Davido to confirm if it corresponded with the reclaimed luggage.
But this did not go down well with one of the aides of Davido who allegedly refused to show the tags.
According to an airport official who witnessed the scene, instead of submitting to the routine baggage reclaim process, he began pouring abusive words on the personnel.
In the ensuing exchange of words, Davido’s aide allegedly punched the Checkport staff in the face while another official of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Aviation Security (AVSEC) Personnel were also attacked.
This prompted the officials to call for reinforcement while the said aide was taken to Tango City where security officials usually keep unruly passengers at the airport.
At the Tango City, the unruly passenger was said to have continued his attacks on the airport officials including a female AVSEC personnel who was writing report on the incident.
Davido was later informed of the development prompting him to rush to the scene but however his attempt to get his aide released proved abortive as the security agencies insisted on transferring him to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Panti, Lagos.
As at the time of filing this report on Friday, it was learnt that Davido’s luggage was still at the airport while the detained aide has been transferred to Panti.
The source who witnessed the incident said, “Normally when you arrived the airport like that, to claim your baggage, you have to present the tags to the Checkport officials who would check if the luggage you have claimed are actually yours. It is a simple process that every passenger submits to on arrival but this aide rather than submitting to this process went on to beat up security officials”.
Spokesman of the Airport Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Joseph Alabi confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying the matter has been transferred to CID headquarters for further investigation.
