Former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapher is dead.
The 75-year-old justice died in a London hospital.
The deceased left behind a wife and three children.
He was born a member of the Bani Ya’muusa clan in Babura Town in Babura, a local government area in the north of Jigawa State.
In August 2011, Justice Musdapher was appointed the Acting Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In 1979, he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Kano State by General Olusegun Obasanjo
In a reaction, former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa, said in his twitter handle: “Our Heartfelt Condolences to the immediate family of the recently deceased Justice Dahiru Musdapher who sadly passed on just yesterday.
Jigawa will miss him as well as the Nigerian Judiciary.
May Jannatul Firdaus Be His Final Abode.”
The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, noted in its tweet @MULANLAGOS that it has just been announced that the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Dahiru Musdapher is dead.
Muntasir Adamu Kanam, said that the former CJN died on Monday.
Ayode Ajulo also tweeted and said: “My condolences to the family of the late Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher. I plead and commend his soul to eternal rest and bliss. He will be greatly missed by the bar & bench, and Nigeria as a whole.”
The current Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, has condoled with the immediate family of Musdapher.
Mr. Awassam Bassey, Special Adviser on Media to the CJN, disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Bassey said the CJN had directed the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court to officially send his (Onnoghen) condolences to the immediate family of the late Musdapher.
“The CJN had visited the late Justice Musdapher while on admission in a London Hospital. He has described his death as painful and a lost to the judiciary,’’ Bassey said.
Musdapher was appointed the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2011.
He did serve as Chief Judge of the Kano State Judiciary from 1979 to 1985, and a member of the Court of Appeal from 1985 until 2003.
The late jurist retired from the bench five years ago on attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70.
