The president’s visit to Kano today to attend a wedding ceremony again propped up this pertinent question: Does the president have advisers?
When Nigerians rightly wailed and screamed that President Buhari did not have Political Adviser, he, nominally, appointed Senator Babafemi Ojudu, and posted him to the Office of the Vice President. Ikon Allah, I said inwardly.
To those who think political adviser is useless in government, Buhari’s crass nepotism, frequent but meaningless foreign travels, north-centric merry-go-round and chronic administrative languidness are pointer to the acute need for this office. The aforesaid issues have direct bearing on the political wellbeing and future aspiration of the president.
Again, when we mounted pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Economic Adviser at the time the country’s economy was in turmoil, the president responded, reluctantly though. He appointed Dr Adeyemi Dipeolu and, again, posted him to the Office of the Vice President. What manner of a president with anathema for state of his country’s economy!
These two advisers should not only be there at the president’s beck and call but for giving the administration economic and political direction. It always leaves me agape that the president is not interested in having direct briefing from his Economic and Political Advisers.
Recent events happening in the country show that the president identifies with the elite more than with the common man. If you once believed the president had masses at heart, it’s time you renounced the belief.
