The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Janga has been sacked from his post by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, after six suspects in police custody escaped in Lokoja, the Kogi capital, in the matter concerning Senator Dino Melaye.
Also redeployed are the Commander of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Kogi, the Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Lokoja, where the suspects escaped, and other police officers implicated in the jailbreak. They were punished for negligence, dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.
The development was announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood.
It will be recalled that the suspects were alleged to have received weapons and cash from Melaye, who has since denied having any involvement with the suspects.
The Police declared Melaye wanted Wednesday following his refusal to meet with investigators in Lokoja.
