A team of medical experts at the Garki Hospital, Abuja friday, performed kidney transplant on two patients.
This brings the number of kidney transplants performed at the hospital from 2013 to date to fifteen.
The medical experts did a live transmission of the surgery live via television sets to the board room of the hospital.
Kidney transplant surgery takes about three or more hours to perform, and is one of the reasons people travel abroad for treatment.
A medical personnel at the hospital who said he is not authorized to speak to the press said the hospital has recorded 100 percent success rate with its kidney transplant surgeries and as a result of this , patients now come from Ghana, Burkina Faso and other countries for the procedure.
He called on government to fund hospitals in the country to enable patients access more of the treatment here rather than facing exploitation and humiliation in other countries.
There is also need to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme to include kidney transplants, he said.
