…Even My wife and daughter don’t use hijab
Osun students now appear in school ‘uniforms’ in conformity with their religions
Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday has described the insinuation that he was the one that prompt female Muslim Students to be using hijab as a fallacy that contradicts reasoning when his own wife and daughter were not even using hijab.
Aregbesola stated this at the roundtable on Development Collaborative Framework for Education Development and Advancement organised by the Development and Advancement in Western Nigeria (DAWN) in Osogbo.
He said neither his Government nor himself has ever ordered the use of Hijab by female Muslim students in public schools in the state.
Aregbesola openly challenged those who accused him of ordering the use of Hijab by Muslims to bring concrete prove to substantiate their claims.
The Governor challenged those accusing him of plunging the state into religious crisis to the present a video or voice recording, written speech evidencing where he commanded or ordered female Muslim students to wear Hijab on their uniform.
The governor explained that the impression created by his opponent that Osun was on fire over the use of hijab by female Muslim students in public schools was not true, saying the state remains peaceful.
Aregbesola reeled out other policies of his government and lauded the DAWN commission for its thoughtfulness on the initiative for the benefit of South West region and the Yoruba race.
According to the governor, “When we came to government, our first task was to convene an education summit which was chaired by Professor Wole Soyinka. All our intervention in education since then came from the recommendations derived from the summit”.
The Director General of the Office of Economic Development Programme in Osun State, Dr Charles Akinola, while speaking during the conference said the initiative championed by the DAWN commission would create a platform for South-West state to share best policies and practices
