Bolanle Ambode, Joke Silva, Others To Attend LASU 2nd Distinguished Lecture

Wife of the governor of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, renowned thespians, Joke Silva, Segun Arinze and Mrs Anne Dan-Faparusi, have been selected as speakers for the Lagos State University (LASU) 2nd Distinguished Lecture on Aug. 28.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun told a news conference on Tuesday in Lagos that Dan-Faparusi, a U.S.-based certified pilot and also an alumna of the university, was chosen because of her vast experience and exposure that were capable of inspiring students and staff of the institution.

He said that the keynote address would be given by Mrs Ambode, another distinguished alumnus with a passion for changing the lives of young adults.

According to him, the goal of the lecture is to build a synergy between the university, the private sector and government at all levels for a knowledge-based and driven development.

“For us as an institution, it is about building the right collaborations to the end that we are able to train and supply better equipped and market-ready manpower for the development of the public and private sector of the state and nation.

“The benefit of the lined up events will hopefully penetrate beyond the university walls and equally make glossy our already established enviable image in the comity of universities across the globe.

“We assure you of our commitment to continue to engage with leaders in the private and public sector to tap into their ideas in empowering our students and staff,’’ he said.

The VC also promised that the institution would not relent on fostering high-level of scholarships and recording high-level collaborations and academic linkages both locally and internationally.

He said the university would not rest on her oars in pushing the frontiers of academic excellence which was critical to the rating of higher academic institution in the world.

Fagbohun lauded Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for his huge investment in the physical structures of the university and the university governing council led by Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo for their effective guidance.
