Bridge Under Saraki’s Watch A ‘Death Trap’

The bridge that links Kiama to Ilorin the capital of Kwara state is a death trap for motorist and a disaster waiting to happen.

The collapsing bridge is located in Kwara Central Senatorial District where Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki represents.

Saraki who is considering running for President on the platform of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party will have to convince Nigerians that he can bring the change he preaches if he can’t fix a bridge in his constituency.

In a SOS call, a A. Abiodun Lanrryb alerted transparency platform, Tracka, to draw the attention of the government and the senator to the looming tragedy on the bridge.

The bridge that has totally caved in on one has restricted motorists and pedestrians to only a narrow part of the bridge.

Calling on Tracka to intervene before calamity befall the motorists, Lanrryb tweeted, “Dear @TrackaNG kindly help us to confirm if the senator representing Kwara central has collected money meant to repair this bridge on behalf of our district. This is a bridge that connects Ilorin Kiama together.”

His tweet has attracted hundreds of retweets as well as comments from Nigerians who find it unbelievable.

Goskie wondered how Saraki will consider ruling Nigeria when ha has failed in his primary assignment. “Yet @bukolasaraki wants to lead Nigeria. Someone who failed to lead a state,” he tweeted.

Ibrahim Jamal quickly corrected Goskie, “Comeone who failed to lead a senatorial district.”

Mahmoud Tokura could not believe bridges like that existed in Nigeria. “We have Bridges like this in Nigeria!? This looks like colonial leftovers.”

Richmond described it as “A time bomb waiting to explode. Corruption a “political cancer” spreading in the heart of Nigeria politics, sweeping fast like a tsunami across the 36 states. Politics in Nigeria is devoid of accountability and transparency. Evil will triumph, if d good people don’t rise to challenge it.”

Atitebi Dola chipped in to, “Terrible and they want to be president…. We are watching!!!”

Findings by Chronicle NG revealed that the bridge has been death trap for many months and that the attention of the north central state’s government and that of Senator Saraki has been called to it.

In 2017, The Nation wrote a report titled ‘Kiama bridge on East-West Road: Disaster waiting to happen‘ to draw the attention of the government to the road.
