Celebrated Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie, on Friday, received an Honorary Doctor of Literature (DLit) degree during the July 2018 graduation ceremonies of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) jurist and film curator, June Givanni; Hollywood star, Forest Whitaker; author Dr Jung Chang, and lawyer/human rights activist, Vrinda Grover were among the other awardees.
Speaking about the recognition accorded Adichie, a post on the SOAS website, said, “Chimamanda’s books have challenged perceptions around issues such as identity and race, and her internationally renowned TED talk ‘We should all be feminists’ had a global impact on conversations about gender equality.”
Adichie is the author of four books including ‘Purple Hibiscus’ (2003), ‘Half Of The Yellow’ (2006) ‘The Thing Around Your Neck’ (2009), ‘Americanah’ (2013) and a long essay, ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ (2014).
