Eight aspirants have so far indicated interest to contest the by-election into Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
The seat became vacant following the death of Mr. Adewale Oluwatayo, who represented the constituency under the platform of APC. He passed away in Abuja on Thursday July 21.
Following his death, the jostle for replacement has since begun, with aspirants in the ruling APC and the opposition PDP in the state showing interest.
As at the time of filing this report, three APC aspirants – Demola Doherty, Yomi Ogunnusi and Abiola Josiah, have declared interest to contest the party’s primary election ahead of the by-election to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the end of the year.
Five politicians from PDP have also communicated their intention to the state leadership as further confirmed by the chairman, Adegoke Salvador.
It was learnt that more people are likely to show interest in days to come, especially from other parties.
The election is expected to be the first test of strength between the APC and PDP since the conduct of the 2015 elections.
