The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has accepted his nomination as the President-General of the Jamiyyatu Ansariddeen Attijaniyya Nigeria.

Speaking at the weekend in Abuja during a National Retreat and Inauguration ceremony of the Jamiyyatu Ansariddeen Attijaniyya Nigeria, Sanusi, who spoke in Arabic, said he was happy to take over the leadership of a group his grand father work for it existence.

“I enjoined you to be committed to this noble cause of the association and Islam. I accepted my nomination as the President-General because my late grandfather as the Emir of Kano then, received the founder of the Tijaniyya, Sheik Ibrahim Niass when he first visited Nigeria,” Sanusi said.

The Emir, while advising Muslims said the non-adherence to the dictate of Islam was responsible for their failure to better the lots of the society.

Also speaking, Governor Umar Jibrila Bindow of Adamawa State who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Umar Buba Bindir, lamented that all the members of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) are classified as third world countries despite the abundance of human and natural endowments in those countries.

He, therefore, urged Muslims to prioritize skill-based education and be united to develop their societies, countries and contribute to world development.

Bauchi State governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar who was also represented by the states’ SSG, Bello Shehu Ilelah, urged Muslims go beyond rhetoric and act to change the fortunes of their citizens.

Delegates from 33 states across the country and foreign representatives including Senegal and Turkey attended the retreat aimed at strengthening the association and members’ capacity in Islamic propagation and societal welfare.
