Fayemi Stops Education Taxes, Approves N200M Car and Housing Loans For Teachers

Teachers and pupils in all the Ekiti State Government schools were today full of praise  as the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi signed an Executive Order banning various fees collected by some principals, headteachers and other school officials.

He did not stop there, he put big smiles on the faces of teachers as he approved N200m as car and housing loans for those of them in public schools in the state to boost their morale.

The governor disclosed that the loans would be disbursed on or before November 15, this year. He added that payment of arrears of salaries owed by the last administration would commence any moment from now.

Speaking today after signing the order, Dr. Fayemi said the State has henceforth provided free and compulsory education in government primary and secondary schools.

The executive order therefore places stiffer sanctions and penalties for school principals and headteachers extorting illegal fees from pupils by.

The governor frowned at any form of extortion from students even under the pretext of collecting “voluntary donations. The Governor made it known that parents and guardians are free to report any head of school or teachers who asks pupils for money to the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Fayemi said that this development would eliminate school dropouts as well as encourage children enrollment.
