Wife of the late former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obua, has dispelled rumour that her husband’s death has something to do with his ordeal in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Obua who hailed from Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State died of heart attack last Thursday at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP yesterday, wife of the deceased, Merit Gordon Obua, said she had raised suspicion over the real cause of her husband’s death and that she has demanded that autopsy be conducted on his body.

The mother of triplets who married the late Obua in 2005, however, said the government couldn’t have killed her late husband as being rumoured.

This is just as family sources disclosed that a female politician from Delta State had absconded to South Africa with a huge amount of money belonging to the late CSO.

Although Obua’s death certificate indicated cardiogenic shock, acute myocardial infection, diabetic melitus and hypertension as possible causes of his death, a source close to the family hinted that they were not comfortable with the diagnosis.

According to the source, Obua’s death occurred less than 24 hours after he complained of stomach disorder.

LEADERSHIP also gathered from Hospital sources that the late Obua vomited substance mixed with blood and this has raised apprehension over the real cause of his death.

When contacted by our correspondent, Mrs. Obua confirmed that there was suspicion over the real cause of her husband’s death, adding that she has since demanded that autopsy be carried out on his body.

“Autopsy will confirm the real cause of his death, but I don’t believe he was killed by anybody in government”, she said.

Another family source who did not want to be named in print said that the late Obua had a running battle with a female politician from Delta State who is said to be in possession of huge amount of money belonging to the late CSO.

The female politician who was chairman of a federal government agency during the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan was said to be Obua’s mistress.

The late Obua was said to have used his influence within the presidency to negotiate federal government support towards her 2015 governorship ambition.

According to the Source, the prominent politician carted away millions of dollars belonging to the late CSO and refused to surrender the cash when it was demanded.

“Some people have fingered the woman in question as the possible cause of Gordon’s death. She is in possession of his wealth and she ran to South Africa. The late Gordon made effort to trace her, but to no avail. The woman is said to be married to a man in South Africa and has changed her name”, he said.

The late Obua was arrested in July 2015 and detained in the custody of the DSS in connection with investigations by the secret police on the alleged movement of large sums of security money in the last administration as well as oil theft in the Niger Delta.

He reportedly went on hunger strike to protest the conditions of his detention, including a lack of access to lawyers and his family members.

He was later affected in a mass purge at the DSS after an investigation panel led by a former director of training recommended the dismissal of the former CSO alongside one Liman Widi, a personal assistant to the former Director General of the service, Ita Ekpenyong, for corrupt practices and playing partisan roles said to be against the Service codes.

Obua was accused of allegedly conspiring with former Minister of Petroleum to spend $6.9 million dollars to buy three 40-feet mobile stages for use during mass public speaking events.
