How Atiku Stopped Me From Becoming Adamawa Governor – Boss Mustapha

Twenty-eight years after his failed efforts to become Adamawa State governor, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has revealed how former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, truncated his ambition.

The SGF had contested the election under the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party in the aborted third Republic against late ex- Gov.Saleh Michika of the National Republican Convention, NRC

Speaking in Yola, recently at the APC stakeholders’ meeting, Mr Mustapha said Mr Atiku moved against him after he failed to impose a deputy gubernatorial candidate on him.

Mr Mustapha, who spoke in respect of the forthcoming congresses in the state, explained that the former VP conspired with the then NRC candidate ex- Gov Michika to stop him from becoming governor in 1991 gubernatorial election.

According to him, some key officers of the party had been deliberately influenced to create internal wrangling just to ensure that I did not emerge governor.

“Nobody knows the effect of internal party wrangling than me. I would have become Adamawa governor in 1991 under the SDP but Atiku wanted to impose a deputy gubernatorial candidate on me, but when I refused he connived with ex- Gov.Saleh of the opposition NRC.

“That collaboration eventually led to my losing the election and Michika emerged the governor,” he said.

He commended party members and stakeholders for their efforts and sacrifices which led to the victory of the APC at all levels in 2015 and urged them to put aside their differences and work for the victory of the party in 2019 general elections.

Mr Mustapha assured that the party will be fair and just to all interests within the party adding that the congresses will be conducted in strict compliance with party guidelines.

Further, Mr Mustapha urged all the outgoing exco members and those who joined the party subsequently wishing to contest various positions in the congresses to do so and mobilise their supporters to participate in the exercise.
