The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday commiserated with all affected by the late Monday terror attack at a concert by U.S. pop star, Ariana Grande in English city of Manchester.
Twenty-two people were reportedly dead and 59 injured in the attack.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrific attack in Manchester.
“The ICC and English Cricket Board (ECB) place safety and security at the ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Women’s World Cup this summer as the highest priority.
“We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate, in conjunction with the ECB and relevant authorities to ensure that we have a robust safety and security plan for both tournaments.
“We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels,’’ the council said in a statement.
It added that the security situation had been very much in the front and centre of its preparations and it constantly reviewed the procedures to guarantee they were as effective as possible to keep everyone safe.
“We do not disclose our security details as a matter of policy,’’ the statement said.
The ICC is the global governing body for cricket and represents 105 members.
It is responsible for the staging of major international tournaments, including the ICC World Cup and Women’s World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC Men’s and Women’s World T20.
The ICC presides over the ICC Code of Conduct which sets the professional standards of discipline for international cricket, playing conditions, bowling reviews and other ICC regulations. The Laws of the game remain under the auspices of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
The ICC also appoints the umpires and referees that officiate at all sanctioned Test matches, One Day International and Twenty20 Internationals through its Anti-Corruption Unit and coordinates action against corruption and match fixing.
The ICC Development department works with associate and affiliate members to improve the quality of international cricket, build better cricket systems, get more people playing cricket and grow the game.
