Lady Lands In Court For Threatening To Pour Acid On Hotel Staff

A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday granted N100, 000 bail to Udey Diana, 28, of Karu, arraigned for allegedly threatening to pour acid on a hotel staff.

The defendant is facing charge of criminal intimidation which contravenes sections 397(b) of the Penal code.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge, while the judge adjourned the case till Nov. 22 for hearing

The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, however, admitted the defendant to the bail of N100,000 with a reasonable and reliable surety in like sum.

Ishaq ruled that the surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, should present either his drivers’ licence or national identity and passport photographs to the court’s registrar as part of the bail conditions.

He further ordered the defendant to write an undertaken of continued good behaviour and to maintain peace and order within his environment.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mrs Ashasim Helen, informed the Court that one Fanty Unique of Hiltop Hotel Karu, Abuja, reported the defendant to Karu Police station on Sept. 25.

Helen said that the defendant had allegedly threatened to pour acid on the complainant and other staff of the hotel.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant made the threat in the presence of all the hotel staff members.

She told the court that the defendant, who was a guest at the hotel, had a disagreement with the complainant, which led its management inviting the Police to effect her arrest.
