Lagos Plans Incubation Centre For Start-ups, Artisans

The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, has said the Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration will establish incubation centres for start-ups and artisans across the state before the end of the administration next year.

Unveiling this plan in an interview with The Guardian at the weekend, she said: “So many ministries and agencies of government are doing various empowerment programes in Lagos but when we train them, they usually complain of no start-up capital. Even when some tokens are disbursed, it is not always sufficient to start something good, but with the incubation centre coming on stream, beneficiaries of our trainings can register with the centre and start to practice what they have been trained on for free.

“For example, as a fashion designer, caterer, or furniture maker, you may not need to have all the tools and then rent a shop. All that is needed is your clients and materials and you come to the incubation centre to get it done and then deliver it to your client.

“In addition, there will some add-on benefits like digital and social media skills, networking, marketing, and financial literacy trainings to boost their trade. This will be at no cost to the trainees, all they need is just register with the ministry and they have a maximum of two years to make use of the incubation centre, so others can be enrolled.

Akinbile-Yusuf, popularly called Moremi, is being touted as one of the next amazons from Alimosho area of the state to be considered for the deputy governorship candidate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Reacting to the news making the rounds in that regard, she said: “As you are hearing it is the same way I am also hearing it. It is like a flame but the source of the fire I don’t know. However, I have said it severally, the will of God will prevail at all times, if you have been destined for a position, it is God that will lead you there. I will not force myself on anything. However, there is no challenge that is too big for me to handle, I have held several positions in the past which I did very well. Few months ago, people were everywhere saying Moremi for House of Representatives, whereas I never told anyone I was interested in running for the office. I believe in the party supremacy.”is always supreme. Whatever the party believes I am worthy of doing for the people, I will not hesitate to do it to the best of my ability. I don’t have any special ambition. My only ambition is service to humanity.
