The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has described the death of the elder statesman, Alhaji Maitama Sule as one of the last symbols of the golden era of Nigeria.
The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba stated this in a Letter of Condolence to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state.
He said the late Sule was a worker, a politician, a diplomat and a national icon, who opened his doors to all Nigerians irrespective of their creed.
Wabba also described the late elder statesman as a man of personable character, intense knowledge, good humour and inimitable oratorial skill.
“Alhaji Maitama Sule who was also the Dan masanin Kano was a nationalist and one of the last symbols of the golden era of Nigeria.
“We commend your Excellency for having the presence of mind to declare a day of mourning in honour of this elder statesman.
“We, however, would urge your Excellency to go a step further and immortalise his name at the appropriate time,” he said.
Wabba expressed Nigeria Labour Congress condolences with the Government and people of Kano State and the immediate family of Alhaji Maitama Sule.
