Markarfi Vs Modu Sheriff : Police Seal PDP Headquarters Again

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, has been sealed again by men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

This time, sources within the party said the closure of the secretariat is indefinite. They however, appealed to Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who are both laying claims to the chairmanship to shift grounds for the party to re-position and reclaim federal power in 2019.

Our correspondent who visited the party’s headquarters Monday, reports that security operatives were seen at the main entrance into the building thwarting staff from gaining entry including journalists.

Some security operatives who spoke with our correspondent in confidence said the July 4, 2016 judgment to be delivered by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State would determine whether or not to re-open the gate.

A Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, had on June 16, heard the case filed by the Rivers State chapter of the PDP, against the embattled national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and others.

In a suit N0: FHC/PH/CS/524/2016, the state chapter of the PDP wants the court to affirm that Sheriff was validly removed as chairman of the party, during the May 21 convention held in Port Harcourt.

Also, the party wants the court to affirm that the caretaker committee of the party, headed by Sen Ahmed Makarfi, was duly appointed in line with the constitution of the party.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, at a peace meeting, last Friday, with Sheriff and Makarfi, resolved that both factions should submit names of nominees as peace committee‎. However, as at the time of filing this report, none of the duo have done that.

‎Nominating individuals for a truce with the IG, Daily Trust learnt was a difficult thing for the two warring factions as both of them are claiming legitimacy.
