As with long standing tradition for wives of states governors to wellcome and celebrate the babies of the year, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor and founder of MMAWT legacy initiative, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal welcomed the the New Year Baby.  The baby was delivered by Malama Hafsatu Shamsu at exactly 12. 02am, on Monday, 1 January, 2018 at the Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto.

The governor’s wife was represented by Hajiya Laraba Dattijo, alongside the MMAWT Legacy Initiatives team, associates, party elders and Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of women and Children Affairs.

While conveying her message to the parents of the new born, Hajiya Tambuwal asked for all to pray to God for His blessings on the baby, for good health and prosperity. She also prayed to God to bless the parents with means and resources to cater for the baby’s needs.

Hajiya Tambuwal also called on the women in the state to always abide by the antenatal routine prescribed to them, by ensuring they make available their children for vaccinations against child killer diseases.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, thanked the wife of the governor for the gesture and called on women in the state to always visit hospitals for Antenatal care, as it helps in easing difficulties during childbirth.

In her remarks, the permanent secretary Sokoto State Ministry of Women and children affairs, Hajiya Aisha Dantsoho, also thanked the wife of the governor and called on the parents to make good use of the items donated to them.
The Secretary of the hospital, then concluded the rounds of goodwill messages, Hajiya Maryam Ahmad Barade who also thanked the wife of the governor on behalf of the hospital staff and management.

The parents of the baby of the year, expressed their appreciation to Hajiya Tambuwal for the gesture and promised to use the items donated to them judiciously. She gladly announced the baby has been named Maryam .
