My Mandate Has Been Stolen – Funke Adesiyan Cries Out

Nollywood actress, Funke Adesiyan, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of taking away her victory in the Oyo State House of Assembly primary election.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member had earlier announced her victory in the election to represent Ibadan South East 2 at the legislature.

According to her, she got 207 votes to defeat her rival who got 32 votes.

But in a message released on Monday, the Eti Keta actress declared that “the journey of the last one year has been halted.”

While thanking her supporters for standing by her, she added that “I am not quite happy that my hard-earned mandate was taken from me, as this stands against the principle with which I stand for.”

Her statement comes a day after wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, lamented what she called “impunity” going on under APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Funke continued: “This is one old injustice that has continued to dwarf the progress and entrenchment of internal democracy, one that has denied many people the full blessings of fulfilling their ambition politically.

“There is no better evidence of this than the brazen act of injustice that forced me to surrender my mandate.”

She, however, implored her supporters not to despair, but “to go all out and vote for the APC in the 2019 general election and ensure that we record a resounding victory.”

Funke won the PDP ticket to contest for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2015 but lost to the APC candidate.

In February 2017, she labelled President Muhammadu Buhari “egoistic, deceitful and a “two-faced tyrant”.

She also accused Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka; APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, and Oshiomhole, of not being loyal to Nigerians.

The Ibadan-born actress declared her support for Senate President Bukola Saraki after his Abuja residence was barricaded by security agencies in July 2018.

She announced that she was ready to re-contest for the Oyo Assembly in August.
