The emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as President of Nigeria indicates that the country will soon be redeemed from corruption and negative vices, Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule has said.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja while delivering a keynote address at the opening of the 8th annual forum of the laureates of the Nigerian National Order of Merit, he recalled that President Buhari brought sanity to the nation while he was military head of state, so “we look up to him to bring such sanity to Nigeria again.”
The elder statesman said he had always dreamt of a Nigeria that would be united irrespective of tribe and religion as well as get its proper place in the world. “I now see a light at the end of the tunnel for Nigeria,” he said.
On her part, Chairman, Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award, Prof. Etim Essien said the forum provided the opportunity to laureates, fellows of the different academics, other academics and researchers as well as key decision makers in the public and private sectors to focus their considerable cumulative intellectual attention on any topic chosen each year.
