Ogun Govt Distributes Relief Materials To Flood Victims

Ogun State government has distributed relief materials to victims of flood disaster caused by torrential rainfall in Opako-Adigbe area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while extending his condolences to the flood victims at the Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, said that the distribution of the relief materials become imperative to ameliorate their loss through the flood.
Abiodun, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shuabi Salisu, said that the State Emergency Management for the first time distributed the relief materials which was supposed to be done by the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency, saying that the urgent need of the relief materials by the victims could not make the state government wait for NEMA.

The governor, however, said that his administration would continue to provide succour for the people of the state, urging them to maintain clean environment and endeavour to clear their drainages so as to avert such occurrences in the future, noting that damage roads, drainages and carnal were under repair.
He said “This administration under Prince Dapo Abiodun will continue to provide succor to the masses, even without national assistance, such as this. This gesture is the first by the State”
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Tpl. Yetunde Dina, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Pastor Bola Orekoya said palliative measure put in place by the governor shows that his administration was committed to the well-being of its citizenry, advising the people to adhere strictly to environmental laws to prevent recurrence.
The materials relief distributed included bundles of roofing sheets, bags of cement, bags of rice, mattresses, mosquito nets, soaps and variety of food items.
