The longest surviving lawmaker in Ogun State, Otunba (Dr.) Issac Adekunjo Akinleye has died at the age of 97.
The late nonagenarian who was in the Ogun State House of Assembly between 1979 and 1983 under the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) died at one of his children’s house at Ikorodu in Lagos last week.
He was the leader of the House during the period and was fondly referred to as “Father of the House” representing Iboro/Ibese/Sunwa state constituency.
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly Suraj Adekunbi at the House plenary on Wednesday, described late Akinleye as a consummate teacher, articulate legislator and foremost nationalist
whose legacies remained part of the foundation for excellence in the state.
Adekunbi recalled that the late Akinleye was a leader of the defunct Action Group and later Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) where in conjunction with other leaders designed the progressives’ political roadmap which is still extant till date.
