I think this declaration is what we should look at critically. I have not been on Facebook precisely in the last few days, especially after Governor Amosun made his unilateral declaration of “Ogun West” (Yewa l’okan in another words) like an Ian Smith declaring away from Rhodesia. But the feelers I am getting from here is that some of our people have suddenly turned the new active vocal voice of the government of Ibikunle Amosun, shooting down every kind of arrow in the man’s direction.
We have traveled this road before, and it lightens my emotional burden that at least Ibikunle Amosun has signposted his own ‘Shooting Range”. In fact, I do not need to think far before pronouncing this as serving the people wine in a poisoned chalice. The question we should first ask is: is Ibikunle Amosun going to allow the Ogun West people choose sincerely for themselves who should succeed him or he will have to choose for them?
How has he served the interest of the people once he single handedly pick a candidate (and from which party?) There are jostling already with every available aspirants wishing themselves luck, that it could be me, without anyone giving a thought to how many promises has Amosun made that he has kept, except the ones to himself. I played back his live broadcast interview of October 2014 where he promised his light rails will convey people to Shiloh in Ota in December, 2014 as well as to the Redemption Camp for that same year. In the same interview he told a stunned audience that 80 of the official vehicles for all his local government councillors had just arrived awaiting distribution. Now, when such a man make a promise and I see people hoping upon such, I do not think the man who makes such is to be blamed but those who believed him; could they be naive, stupid or foolish?
Should they not be bothered how would people from Ijebu or Egba in the same government hoping to actualize their own political ambition receive such blanket and whimsical disenfranchisement or narrowed their own ambition by the pronouncement of a mere mortal just like them. So, let us assume, without conceding that Amosun meant well, is he going to Armstrong members of his parties or even government to automatically tow his line to support his candidate of choice. Definitely, Amosun’s anointed candidate has started on a not too impressive note, his political balance sheet is in the red or debit before take off.
Knowing Governor Amosun’s brand of politics which is anchored on deceits, lies and falsehood he has already ruled out Ogun West from the race, just keeping the people looking in a wrong direction. And I dare to say, boldly too, Time will tell!!!
