A Nigerian student was tied to a pole and thrashed by Pune residents after he allegedly striped on road in an inebriated state, India Times has reported.

According to police, the drama continued for two hours when the youth, identified as Bunduki Salima Rachet, started making obscene gestures at women in a PMPML bus passing through the area.

The residents had to intervene and they tied him to a pole while the angry mob started beating him up, before calling the police.

The youth is a student of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune — International Cell and is in his third year of Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA). After a primary investigation, the police took him to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment.

A resident told Mirror that, “This guy was first standing calmly in front of our furniture shop. When I noticed him for the first time, he was speaking to himself. Then suddenly, he took out his cellphone from his pocket and threw it to the ground. Then, he began taking off his clothes and shouting something in English. As there is a traffic signal ahead on this road, vehicles had stopped at the red light. He first broke the front glass of a Mercedes and subsequently hit two other cars. After that, he attacked a couple of autorickshaw drivers, who hit him while trying to defend themselves.”

“When he entered a PMPML bus naked, in which the majority of passengers were women, I took a wooden stick and, along with the others, started beating him. He was very violent; his eyes had turned red. We were a group of 10-15 people, but we couldn’t hold on to him. He was beating all of us with his bare hands and abusing us,” he added.

Vikas Nagole, another passerby who was beaten up and his shirt torn by Rachet, shared, “I was passing through this road on my bike and was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when suddenly this guy came near me and started beating me up. I fell down, so he pulled my shirt and even bit me. So, to defend myself, even I started returning the blows along with the other public gathered there. Then, someone called the police for help. For around 25-30 minutes, till the police arrived, a huge mob was running behind him to catch him. Finally, we managed to get hold of him and tied him to an iron pole on the footpath, after which the police came to take him into custody.”

When Mirror tried to speak to Rachet, he only said, “I want to kneel down and pray to God. I want to go to Baner, and please allow me to wear my clothes.”
