On Sunday, January 31, 2021, the Nigerian social establishment was jolted by the news of the death of Alhaji Umar Ayinla Saro, OFR, CON, the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate. The first year remembrance prayer was held in his honour on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at his Ikoyi, Lagos home. 

Until his death, Alhaji Umar Saro was a leading light in the nation’s business community and a celebrated philanthropist. He was an industrialist, community leader and elder-statesman par excellence. His legendary act of philanthropy led to the human capital development and empowerment of many less-privileged. He was highly respected for his patriotism, humility, honesty and transparently apolitical stance throughout.

So, while the heavens welcome him on arrival on the other side, let us, the mortals savour the gloriousness of Alhaji Umar Saro as depicted by his admirers in words and pictures in this special edition.
